12 Characteristics of a Leviathan Spirit: How to Recognize and Overcome It

Do you feel like you’re constantly at war? Like you’re fighting a never-ending battle that you can’t seem to win?If so, you may be dealing with a leviathan spirit.

This spirit is one of the most powerful and destructive spirits in the spiritual realm because he is an ancient high-ruling demonic prince in the spiritual world. Leviathan especially targets leaders, ministries, and marriages.

This spirit often comes in through a wounded spirit involving rejection. The demon realm sets up an individual to be traumatized through rejection. Rejection then opens the door to a spirit of pride and offers pride as a false fix (an angel of light) for rejection.

This spiritual warfare article will discuss the characteristics of a Leviathan spirit and how to recognize and overcome it!

Leviathan in the Bible

Before we get into the characteristics of a Leviathan spirit, I think it’s essential to look at the scriptures in the Bible that mention this creature/entity.

In the Hebrew Bible, Leviathan is mentioned by name in these five verses:

  1. Job 3:8 – “Let those who curse the day curse it, those who are skilled at rousing Leviathan.”
  2. Job 41:1 – “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or can you tie down its mouth with a cord?”
  3. Psalm 74:14 – “You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food to the desert-dwelling creatures.”
  4. Psalm 104:26 – “There the ships sail. Leviathan is there that you formed to play with.”
  5. Isaiah 27:1 – “On that day, Yahweh will punish with his cruel, great and strong sword, Leviathan, the fleeing serpent, and Leviathan, the twisting serpent, and he will kill the sea monster that is in the sea.”

What is Leviathan?

In Job 41, Leviathan is portrayed as a powerful and terrible beast that human strength cannot control.

He has sharp teeth, impenetrable scales, breathes out fire and smoke, and has the capacity to easily shatter bronze and iron. After all of their natural weapons have failed against it, the Warrior flees from Leviathan.

Leviathan is operating in the world today – in and through people. He aims to thwart God’s purposes and he hates humans, especially those who authentically follow Jesus. Leviathan wants nothing more than to kill, steal, and destroy anything of meaning or value in a person’s life. This includes relationships, finances, dreams and goals, possessions, reputations, inner peace, and the gift of eternal life in heaven.

Ancient Ruling Spiritual Prince – A Principality

Leviathan is the ancient force of chaos that has been around since before God made mankind. It’s sometimes referred to as a dragon or sea monster in modern English biblical translations, Yamm the twisting serpent in the Baal Cycle tablets, and Lotan in Canaanite mythology.

In the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible, we find the following passage on page 247:

“The Devil in the New Testament is wholly the enemy of God and righteousness. He is called by several different names, reflecting the several traditions which were melded to construct the concept of the Devil in the intertestamental period.

In one remarkable passage, we find “the great Dragon, … the Serpent of old who is called the Devil and Satan.” The names’ Devil’ and ‘Satan’ are used interchangeably without apparent difference in meaning. The Dragon clearly recalls Leviathan, the great “dragon that is in the sea” (Isaiah 27:1 – Tiamat and Yamm), while the Serpent is also the “serpent [who] deceived Eve by his craftiness.” (2 Corinthians 11:3; Genesis 3:1-15).

Here, as in the intertestamental literature, images and names of the great opponent of the gods of heaven in the Combat Myth are used of the Devil.”

Leviathan in 2 Esdras

In the apocryphal book of 2 Esdras 6:49-52, we read once again about Leviathan. 2 Esdras was in the original 1611 King James Bible; it talks about Leviathan being created by God before man existed.

“And gave them a charge to do service unto man, that was to be made. Upon the fifth day thou said unto the seventh part, where the waters were gathered that it should bring forth living creatures, fowls and fishes: and so it came to pass.

For the dumb water and without life brought forth living things at the commandment of God, that all people might praise thy wondrous works. Then didst thou ordain two living creatures, the one thou called Enoch, and the other Leviathan; And didst separate the one from the other: for the seventh part, namely, where the water was gathered together, might not hold them both.

Unto Enoch thou gave one part, which was dried up the third day, that he should dwell in the same part, wherein are a thousand hills: But unto Leviathan thou gave the seventh part, namely, the moist; and hast kept him to be devoured of whom thou wilt, and when.”

Identifying the Leviathan Spirit

12 Characteristics of a Leviathan Spirit in OperationHow do we go about overcoming a Leviathan spirit? First, we need to identify it.

In Job 41:34, it is called “king over all the children of pride,” and pride is what allows this spirit to enter into people’s lives. People who are guilty of pride and self-righteousness are affected by its influence.

The kind of pride we are talking about here is a prideful, puffed-up spirit. Not to be confused with being proud of someone for doing something well, or being proud of a project you made, or an accomplishment.

Rather, when pride goes to a person’s head and plants a seed in their heart, they begin the process of self-worship – that’s being prideful, and that’s the kind of pride I’m referring to.

Let’s move on to the 12 characteristics of a Leviathan spirit that are commonly seen in its daily operation.

Characteristic #1: The Leviathan Spirit Twists the Truth

While it’s true that all evil spirits are liars, the Leviathan spirit specializes in twisting the truth in the mind of its victims without them even realizing it. It twists intentions and conversations. Someone can tell them something, and they hear something totally different.

  • Misinterpretation of what’s said.
  • Anything positive is twisted.
  • Any type of correction is twisted, and the bringer becomes the enemy causing disunity.
  • To get things to go their way, they manipulate.
  • The person tells half-truths because, in their mind, they’ve told enough. Leviathan makes a person feel like if they tell the whole truth, their life will come to an end – invoking the spirit of fear to assist.
  • Confusion.

As you can imagine, this causes significant communication issues and division in relationships. These divisions cause hardness of heart, and in marriage, divorce. (Mathew 19:8) That is the goal of the Leviathan spirit; he’s a covenant breaker.

Characteristic #2: Leviathan – Tasked with Breaking Covenants

One of the primary missions of this demonic spirit is to destroy and break covenants. Leviathan hates covenants of any kind, especially the marriage covenant. It is responsible for nearly all, if not all, divorces.

A person working under the influence of Leviathan is so prideful that they can’t admit when they’re wrong. They play the blame game; everything is always someone else’s fault. This destroys relationships and creates division.

When there is division in a relationship, often both parties want it to end – they are in agreement with the division. Now, look at this scripture where Jesus is speaking:

“Again, truly I say to you that if two of you agree on earth about any matter that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:19)

Although this is typically used for good, could the Leviathan spirit underhandly convince people to invoke it for evil purposes? The scripture doesn’t specifically say “agree on earth about any good matter,” it says any matter.

Demons twist God’s word and spiritual laws to use them for evil purposes on a regular basis. How else could they gain an advantage in a life?

God is not a liar. When he sets something in motion, it is set, period – for all. Demons look for loopholes and areas where they can twist what God has created.

Not only is it a characteristic of the Leviathan spirit to break covenants between humans, but it also rises against the covenant between God and man. This spirit doesn’t want to work with anyone. And that leads us to the next characteristic.

Characteristic #3: The Leviathan Spirit Severs Your Relationship with God

The spirit of Leviathan is very effective at separating people from their relationship with God. It causes hardness of heart towards God too. It can do this by twisting scripture and whispering lies about God, stirring up feelings of anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, and resentment towards God.

“Thus says Yahweh: ‘So I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. This evil people, who refuse to listen to my words, who go in the stubbornness of their hearts, and have gone after other gods, to serve them, and to bow in worship to them, let them be like this loincloth which is not good for anything.” Jeremiah 13:9-10.

“Other gods” include Leviathan, pride, and self.

Once again, God was dealing with these spirits in Isaiah 6:9-10 when he said,

“Go and say to this people, ‘Keep on listening and do not comprehend! And keep on looking and do not understand!’

Make the heart of this people insensitive, and make its ears unresponsive, and shut its eyes so that it may not look with its eyes and listen with its ears and comprehend with its mind and turn back, and it may be healed for him.”

Leviathan can also cause people to doubt God’s goodness and love for them. They may believe that He is uninvolved and distant in their lives as a result. They are left feeling lost, confused, and adrift.

Characteristic #4: A Leviathan Spirit is Stiff-Necked

Job 41:22-23 says, “Strength abides in its neck, and dismay dances before it. Its fleshy folds of skin cling together; it is cast on it—it will not be moved.”

What does this look like in a person operating under the Leviathan spirit? They’re very stubborn in believing that they know more than anyone else, and they are right. They don’t want to do anything that isn’t their idea first.

Characteristic #5: The Leviathan Spirit is Hard-Hearted and Cold

“Its heart is cast as stone; yes, it is cast as the lower millstone.” Job 41:24.

You’ll notice that this spirit causes a person to become hard-hearted and coarse. They seem robot-like and have a nonchalant attitude of “whatever.”

The definition of hard-hearted is: incapable of being moved to pity or tenderness; unfeeling. They don’t have empathy and have a hard time seeing things from another person’s point of view.

The Leviathan spirit puts its scales up, engulfing the person under its influence so that even the truth bounces off them. In essence, the person is trapped inside, and their authentic self cannot get out.

Characteristic #6: Leviathan Blocks the Holy Spirit in Your Life

In Job 41:15-17, the word air is the Hebrew word רוּחַ, ‘Ruach’ (Strong’s 3707) translated as spirit. Talking about Leviathan…

“Its back has scales of shields; it is shut up closely as with a seal. They are close to one another— even the air cannot come between them. They are joined one to another; they cling together and cannot be separated.”

The scales won’t let the Holy Spirit in, blocking Him out. In fact, the scales block the expression of the real person trapped inside of them too.

Characteristic #7: Leviathan is Proud, Haughty, and Arrogant

“It observes all the lofty (thinking they are better than others); he is a king over all the children of pride.” Job 41:34.

The spirit of Leviathan operates mainly through a prideful spirit. Often people become prideful because of a past rejection or trauma. The spirit of pride offers them the lie of power and a false sense of identity. It whispers, “You are really somebody,” “You are special and not like anyone else.” It causes the person to commit idolatry via self-worship.

But James 4:6 says that God resists the proud, so by agreeing with and operating in pride, the person cuts themselves off from God. What better way to keep someone in bondage than to offer them false power and separate them from God, the only one who can set them free?

Leviathan is a mocking spirit. Mockery is another way it attacks others. It will mock:

  • People walking in the obedience of God.
  • Those who disagree with them (their own opinions are so important).

Mockery is defined as ridicule, contempt, making someone or something seem absurdly or offensively inadequate or unfitting. Part of mockery is dismissing something said as unimportant or stupid – invalidation.

Characteristic #8: The Leviathan Spirit is a Whispering Liar

This spirit whispers lies (implants thoughts) which encourages false accusations against people, particularly those in positions of authority. It will plant outrageous seeds that are a complete distortion or twisting of the truth and then hammer those thoughts in over and over again.

Soon, the person is saying and doing what Leviathan wants because they don’t know how to discern his lying thoughts from their own. Because of this, they latch on to the evil thoughts and claim them as their own – coming into agreement with the Leviathan spirit.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The “heart” is the mind, will, and emotions.

Luke 6:45: “The good person out of the good treasury of his heart brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasury brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.”

Matthew 12:34-37: “Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you are evil? For from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

The good person from his good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his evil treasury brings out evil things.

But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment! For by your words, you will be vindicated, and by your words you will be condemned.”

We should take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ to prevent an evil spirit’s thoughts from taking root in our minds and then in our lives.

Pay attention to what you’re thinking about! Is it a negative or dark feeling? Take it to the scriptures and compare them.

In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, we are instructed:

“For although we are living in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but powerful to God for the tearing down of fortresses (strongholds), tearing down arguments and all pride that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”

I’d like to bring to your attention the word captive in that scripture. Captive is one forcibly taken in war.

This is a war in your mind, and you must put forth the effort to take those thoughts that don’t line up with the Bible by force. Chop them down with the Sword of the Spirit by speaking what God says.

Just like Jesus did in the desert when Satan came against him with lies, twisting the scriptures, and testing his character. Matthew 3:4-11.

Characteristic #9: The Contentious Leviathan Spirit

Leviathan uses contention and misunderstanding to destroy communication between people and God. This causes major division in relationships. If not stopped, this spirit will keep hammering on the division with his manipulation and lies until the relationship is literally destroyed.

Strife is also one of his favorite methods of destruction. Strife is angry or bitter disagreement over fundamental issues, conflict.

Look at this scripture in Proverbs 2:20-28; it illustrates the contention of Leviathan clearly:

“For lack of wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling will cease.

As charcoal is to hot embers and wood is to fire, so a man of quarrels is to kindling strife. The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels, and they go down to the inner parts of the body.

Like impure silver, which overlays an earthen vessel, so are smooth lips and an evil heart. On his lips, an enemy will pretend, but inside he will harbor deceit. When he makes his voice gracious, do not believe him, for seven abominations are in his heart.

Though hatred is covered with guile, its evil will be exposed in the assembly. He who digs a pit, in it he will fall, and he who rolls a stone, on him it will come back.

A tongue of deceit hates its victim, and a flattering mouth makes ruin.”

In the book of Galatians, the Bible also warns us not to “bite or devour one another, lest you be consumed by one another.

A person who is operating under the guidance of Leviathan will speak destructive words that have a negative effect on the hearer. The words they speak pull down rather than build up.

They become more and more critical, especially of those in positions of power. A critical person can show criticism overtly through words and covertly through mannerisms.

Characteristic #10: Leviathan Lifts up Leaders in Order to Crush Them

Because Leviathan wants to do as much damage as possible to destroy covenant relationships, it tries to involve as many people as possible. What better way to do that than to target leaders and influencers?

The spirit of Leviathan will prey on pridefulness within that leader or influencer and use his worldly minions to raise the leader up in whatever position he holds. That could be multiple leadership positions in the same person.

For example, a husband who has been charged with leading his family and is also a leader in his job or the community. The higher Leviathan can bring him up, the further he can fall (with witnesses) when the principality decides to turn on him. This brings maximum destruction, affecting not only the leader but also everyone in covenant with him and even those who witness the fall.

“Pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of a lowly (humble) spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.” Proverbs 16:18-19.

Characteristic #11: The Demonic Spirit of Leviathan Brings Depression

Anytime you have a demonic presence operating in a life, you will see depression accompany it at some point. This is the spirit of heaviness.

The human soul was not made to live in darkness and will wither in its continued presence.

Instead, one must turn to the light to be set free. Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound;…

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3.

Characteristic #12: Leviathan, Master of Blame and Self-Pity

Because the leading way the Leviathan spirit operates is through pride, you’ll see it rear its ugly horns when fault comes its way. It cannot be wrong or at fault for anything; it’s too good for that – above it all.

So instead of humbling themselves, admitting when they’re wrong, and making things right again, the person under the influence of pride and Leviathan will instead turn the blame on the other person. They will be able to feel major resistance rise up inside of them in these types of situations.

Some people’s pride will pull in the spirit of anger to help out here by creating an anger wall (shield) so that no blame can enter.

Characteristics of Those Operating in the Spirit of Leviathan

One way you can tell if someone is operating under the control of a Leviathan spirit is to look at their attitude, way of thinking, and speech – their personality.

Demons have personalities; like people, they just don’t have a physical body to accompany them. So, if you want to know what a demon’s personality is like, look no further than the person it’s possessing.

“For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns, men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.” Luke 6:43-44.

Here are some characteristics of people controlled by a Leviathan spirit:

How to Win the War Against the Spirit of Leviathan

Now that you know how the Leviathan spirit operates and what it looks like when in operation, let’s get to the best part – how to get this demonic entity out of a person’s life!

You cannot play around with this spirit; it would be dangerous to attempt to do so. It can’t be tamed or ignored. It must be renounced completely.

A person who has lived under the influence of Leviathan, pride, and self-worship needs to be broken of their pridefulness. This is what has given the enemy an open door to bring so much destruction into their life as well as other people in their influence.

Because of the way that Leviathan works, the longer we wait, the harder it gets to take the spiritual steps needed to get rid of its influence. All proud, self-righteous, and independent attitudes must be broken off.

We must rely on Jesus, what he did on the cross for mankind, and the power of God to slay this dragon. Remember, you are not fighting against the person who is oppressed or possessed by these evil entities, but the spirits themselves.

You must use spiritual weapons to fight. No natural weapon will work.

Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us how:

“Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness, and binding shoes under your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace, in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one, and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…”

During their time under Leviathan’s influence, they haven’t been able to prosper spiritually, but once forgiven and restored, they’ll be able to flow with the Holy Spirit, the right Spirit. True direction and purpose will be restored to their lives.

Step 1: Ask God to Forgive

Those who have accidentally or purposely been used by the Leviathan spirit need to ask for God’s forgiveness and repent. (Repentance: a heart change – turning from the sin, removing the agreement with it)

If you mean it from your heart and are ready to walk away from the spirit of Leviathan, say a prayer and ask God to forgive you.

Here is a prayer you can use to start:

Lord, please remove any influence from the spirit of Leviathan in my life and mind. I reject this spirit completely and wholeheartedly.

Forgive me for any ways that I have served this spirit or any others working with it. Help me to recognize their lies and manipulations and to stand guard against them.

Please protect me and those I love from future attacks and put a hedge of protection around us.

I thank you, Lord, that you are always faithful and that you never leave me nor forsake me.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Step 2: Become Born Again

In order to represent Jesus here on earth and wield power in His name, we must be born again. This is a requirement to proceed to step 3.

If you haven’t asked Jesus into your heart yet and would like to, I have a prayer to do so here: Prayer to become born again.

Step 3: Bind the Evil Spirits

Next, we are going to cast these spirits out of our lives in the name and power of Jesus (not our own power). They must obey; they don’t have a choice when a child of God wields the power given to them to use against spiritual wickedness by Jesus’ death and sacrifice on the cross.

We are going to break all covenants/agreements we’ve made with them, no matter how subtle they may have been.

Say the following:

Holy Spirit, I ask you to fill this room with your presence. Protect and guide me in spiritual warfare against my enemies.

Spirit of Leviathan, in the name of Jesus, I bind you and all the spirits operating with and for you together, now.

I command you to cease your activities and operations in my mind and life and in those that I have influenced! I break all covenants and agreements with you, right now. I want nothing to do with you. You have no rights here.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I command you to go and never return!!

I loose a humble and contrite spirit in me.

Lord Jesus, fill me completely with your Holy Spirit. Fill all the areas that used to be occupied by the Leviathan spirit or any other evil spirits operating with him. Thank you for freedom and restoration!

Amen!!

Step 4: Stay Alert and Wear Your Armor!

Now, make sure you stay in the Word of God – that is your sword and guidebook for survival in this world full of wickedness. You need to stay full of the Holy Spirit and on guard.

Demonic spirits push boundaries and will keep checking and testing to see if they can get back in their “house.”

Matthew 12:43-45 talks about this very thing:

“Now whenever an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it travels through waterless places searching for rest, and does not find it.

Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came out.’ And when it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied and swept and put in order.

Then it goes and brings along with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there. And the last state of that person becomes worse than the first. So it will be for this evil generation also!”

*An unoccupied house is one devoid of the Holy Spirit.

“Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, because you know the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world.” 1 Peter 5:8.

Your Freedom was Paid for 2000 Years Ago!

Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, to pay in full the debt and curse that sin carries. Among other things, with his death and resurrection, we have the right to freedom from demonic oppression or possession, we just need to realize whose we are and the rights we have as children of God.

Step up and claim your inheritance. Put on your armor and take authority over evil spirits!

I hope that the spiritual warfare information above, including the 12 characteristics of a Leviathan spirit, has been helpful to you in some way.

Remember, be diligent and use the weapons God has given you, and you can be victorious!

  1. Thank you for exposing the devil and his tactics, very much appreciated, indeed the truth sets free. May the holyspirit continue to use you to set lives from satanic operations, God bless you.

    1. Hi Frans,

Thanks for reading, and I really appreciate your kindness; it’s very encouraging. God bless you also!

  2. WOW, what a revelation into the unseen principality of leviathan. He is everywhere, but especially in marriages. He’s like a sleeping pet who is comfortable in the home environment, especially Christian homes! I think I’ve gleaned from your article that the Christian will either obey JESUS or leviathan! Thank you again for such clear understanding in this critical matter of leviathan. Moses

  3. Lynda Stahler

I believe that the spirit of Leviathan has been operating through my husband and continues. Finally today God revealed that to me and when I looked up the characteristics he’s got at least six out of 10. But the twisting part of it is very comfortable and doesn’t intend on going anywhere just putting things back on me. Funny our church has Sozo but not Deliverance he thought that was the solution but that’s kind of putting the cart before the horse. So I said the prayer just in case I’m blinded to it and I have it perhaps but he wants no part of it so I don’t know what you would suggest at this point he won’t even look at it. I guess all I can do is find it from manifesting in my presence any suggestions I would love to hear. Granted he is a new Christian of two years and we are newly married so I have to put the ax to the root of this as soon as possible!

  4. Thank you! How do we help a spouse with this demonic influence?

  5. Thank you! This is very eye opening and offers a ton of value!

  6. Thank you very much for this message I’ve been struggling with this for about 8 months

  7. This was so helpful and informative. I choose not to allow the enemy to have any footholds in my life. Thank you for bringing more light on this subject. God bless you.

  8. PLEASE HELP

Hi, Thank you so much for this very informative article, it has really shown me the truth of what is happening in my marriage. My husband has almost all of the characteristics, and the branch off’s also. I am really struggling to communicate with him. It has been this way for 13 years, since we met. He has always been this way (he was sexually abused as a child). I have tried so many different ways to try and crack his hard exterior; all to no avail. He just refuses to listen. I need advice on how to bring this dire situation to his attention, because he mentally shuts down if he ‘believes’ I am ‘attacking’ him or his relationship with Jesus. He genuinely believes he is saved, and is on the right path, but he isn’t Holy Spirit lead. The Lord has spoken to me very clearly about this over the past couple of weeks (whilst I was staying with my sister; due to the strain from his behaviour). He is so very difficult to penetrate, he wont let anyone in, he refuses to reveal the real person that I know he is, he believes it is weak and shameful to show any form of vunerability. He also has a very hard heart, he is physically, emotionally, verbally, and intellectually absent. I feel like ‘he’ is sucking the life out of me if I am being completely honest. I’m in continous intercessory prayer for him, however I now realise that he himself is the one who has to break this agreement with Leviathan and his minions. I desperately need advice on how I would go about bringing this up to him without him going on the defensive, and turning it around on me. I am mentally, and emotionally exhausted. I am cautious because he gets extremely depressed if his salvation is brought into question, he seems to go into some sort of dissociative mental breakdown, thats lasts for days – weeks. I feel as though I am up against a brick wall. I refuse to let this evil entity break my marriage up, my aim is to continue to try and help my husband (with the Lords strength). Thank you for taking the time to read. Any advice, and prayers for this situation would be very much appreciated. God bless you my brothers and sisters in Christ.

    1. My 38 yr old son has what the secular world labeled ‘Bi-Polar Disorder’, however, this article explained it from a Spiritual Warfare perspective. Jesus told His desciples in Matthew 17: 21 “This kind of demon will not leave, except through prayer & fasting”. (I recently leaned this verse is completely missing in some versions of the Bible, such as the NIV & others). It goes from Matthew 17:20 about having faith the size of a mustard seed, (skips verse 21) & goes straight to verse 22 where Jesus tells His Desciples hHe will be turned over to men who will arrest Him, & kill Him, but that He will rise on the third day. This is a VERY important scripture that is missing!!! I wonder why?

    2. Oh, how I feel your pain. My beloved and his family are all harrassed by this evil narcissistic beast. The Lord revealed something to me that might help you as well: Since you focus all of your energy and time on your husband and his demon, you actually lose sight of God and your relationship with Him. Your “broken” marriage has become your idol. It’s not in your power to change this situation.
My advice is: Focus on the Lord and your relationship with Him alone. Let your husband be your husband and, if possible, leave him alone for awhile. He was given a free will just like you. Strengthen your bond with the Lord and good Christians around you. Fast and pray for your husband and ask the Lord to help you. This battle is not just between you and Leviathan, but also betweeen Leviathan, your husband, and God.
Wishing you hope and strength in our Lord Jesus.

      1. Amen that’s exactly what the devil wants is for us to be so hyper focused on the marriage and not on what God is doing! It’s definitely a challenge to deal with the person you got into a marriage with is this way but we must stay steadyfast

    3. My dear sister in Christ I also identify with every anguish attack you are going through with your husband!! I would love for us to pray with each other if possible?! I can’t wait for peace to fall on me and my children, my soul is completely emotionally low but God is restoring me daily with prayer and fasting! Although my fast is different I’m pressing to be release from the demonic force! I seek God everyday longing for him and his continuous blessing for me and my children! I pray that God himself will help my husband not me! We must continue to seek God on everything and not us doing the changing for our spouses! Continue to pray and email me at empresstish11@gmail.com for fellowship and prayers!❤️

    4. Hi sweet sister. I am experiencing the exact things with my husband too and I would love to know how to help him see what is controlling him. He keeps threatening to divorce me and I have been hanging on like you but he just gets worse.

  9. Kristi Friesen

I am 100% consumed by Leviathan and I never knew one thing about this. I have pretty much every single characteristic listed. My husband has pretty much just quit trying after 30 years. I can see this is from my mother, her mother, and I don’t know how far back. My sisters also have this demon. I feel almost crazy thinking this and admitting it. I grew up Baptist and any talk of these things is seen as strange, particularly by my mother. I can see the traits in my boys, all in their 20s, so adult children. I’m struggling with admitting this and wondering if I’ve gone overboard into something crazy! But I read my Bible daily. I beg for change and never feel it and Never hear God or truly feel Him. I need help!

    1. Now that you know the name of this thing, help is on the way!!! Just remember, to practice being “Grateful”

    2. Let Jesus into your heart and ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. They’ll work wonders if you let them (with a little help of repentance, deliverance prayers, fasting, and reading your Bible to strengthen your relationship with God.)

    3. Rayonna Monique

You are not the only one! I have every trait listed in this article. Even as I read through it that spirit attempted to make me think that it couldn’t be me. My church hasn’t spoke on demonic spirits since I’ve been attending. So I am nervous to ask about it. I pray I overcome this!

  10. My husband and I were talking about our oldest daughter and I asked that whatever spirit it is to be revealed, and I heard as clear as day the spirit of leviathan, and lo and behold it was ME! Lord, God, I was so grateful to have Holy Spirit revile this truth to us! We read this, and it blew our mind with all the characteristics!!! MY GOD!! But when we got the way to be delivered, the power that the prayer held delivered me and set me free. I felt dizzy when the revelation of the truth hit me. Thank you so much for ALL of this!! Our home was set free and clean of the evil spirit!

  11. This is brilliant, thank you so much! Last night I struggled with a demon that seems to possess my beloved and caused us a lot of torment to the point of a breakup (we’re living apart). I asked what its name was: Leviathan. (Last time I asked it said its name was Tiamat. I had never seen a picture of Tiamat, always thought of her as a beautiful, Gaia-like woman. A black-and-white image of a dragon with a snake-like body appeared in my head. When I looked up “Tiamat Babylon”, I found an archeological picture of this creature that looked exactly like the image I had seen in my head. It makes perfect sense that they are the same creature in different “mythologies”.)

All of the characteristics of this beast manifest in my beloved as described in the article. I always ascribed it to Jezebel or Satan, but it really is Leviathan. The battle is on. I’ll keep praying for my beloved, who’s Catholic and used to believe in God before he fell into darkness, and us as a couple. (I hope to get married, but for this to happen Leviathan needs to get out of my way and my beloved). Thank you for this outstanding and helpful summary!

  12. Thembakazi

My mother put Leviathan in me using witchcraft to destroy and make me be unable to succeed in anything i put my hand into. I often come across my mothers familia spirit laughing at me when it has blocked me from entering a job or used me to destroy a Godly relationship which i need to move along in life. This leaves me with nothing. I pray for God to restore me. This leviathan twist my thoughts daily. I plan one thing mentaly but physically comes out the opposite. I am living in a demonic realm. The truth is closed out from me.

  13. I am so sorry. I am in a very similar situation. A friend just encouraged me to look into the Leviathan spirit recently. Very eye opening. I don’t know (like you) if there is anything I can do or if it is 100% up to him. I intercede often for him, me, and our family, have some firm boundaries, and fast periodically, but I am at a loss

  14. Hi,
I’m suffering a lot with this spirit. Could you please pray for my deliverance?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comment. I’m praying for your freedom and deliverance.

      God bless you!

  15. Ambassador of God

A log time prayer got answered ! I was praying and asking God to reveal the spirit now I got it ,I thank God for everything!

  16. FREDONA JONES

Lord I thank you for a kind person that thought so much of your children to lead us in a marvelous light.I honesty could see part of the leviathan spirit that had me capture. THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANSES ME AS I REPENT IN JESUS NAME..God bless each person reading this.

  17. Thank u Lisa g do for this article! It all make sense now! Me and my wife have not been able to get on one accord since we’ve been married almost 29 year ago. My wife has about 97 % of those traits you’ve mention. It has been emotional draining for me. She recently told me she wants out of the marriage. She has been so self-centered and prideful since she had her make over a year ago. She was prideful before, now it is over the top!!! Please pray for us because l was bound by this spirit once before. Never understood why l couldn’t move forward till l read “Leviathan is the king over the children of pride! Wow! So many marriages don’t even know what they are up against! My God!!!

  18. A narcissist will not repent. Are you kidding me. It stirs up the demons in them to even try to help them or bring attention of this spirit in them. As a family member to this individual it is very difficult. I have to essentially only spend minimal time around this individual. The will NEVER admit he / she has any of this when this is their personality to the core.

    1. Hi Monica,

I agree, the group of demons working in a narcissist (https://waragainstevil.org/demon-groupings/#30_Spirit_of_PRIDE_Ruling_Demon) will resist the truth and put an iron guard around their mind and an instant prideful resistance in the atmosphere, like I mention in the article.

They have to want to change before they can repent. Keep praying that their eyes are opened to the Truth and that they have a desire for God, that God sends people in their path to sew Godly seeds in their life. Nothing is impossible for God. One sews, another waters, God gives the breakthrough. (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)

I know it’s frustrating dealing with narcissists, I too have had several in my life. But if we don’t intervene with God for them, maybe no one ever will.
